January 5, 2007

Primary and secondary nameservers switched over to Zoneedit Network, as of Jan. 04 @ Midnight. This will likely result in an some trouble accessing the site and services (mail / blogs / etc) for up to 48 hours (Midnight Jan. 06) as the records propogate through the DNS servers of various ISP's.

While DynDns.org / Tucows remains the Domain Registrar, DNS Management has been moved to Zoneedit Network at Zoneedit.com.

The change is not for lack of appreciation for all that DynDns.org offers. On the contrary, lacking a static IP address, DynDns.org is the only way to run a server, and - might one add - they're good people to talk to and deal with. SpinelliCreations HIGHLY reccomends their services. The switch to Zoneedit for DNS Management is prompted by their offer of a free service for up to five domains. The cost above five domains is very, very, very small. In practice, one could run between 10 and 15 domains, per year, for under 30 dollars (US). Most other service providers will charge between 20 and 30 dollars per domain. Also, the DNS record editors are slightly more robust than the usual, and a bit easier to deal with. The drawback, of course, is the standard 48 hour lag time between update propogation. DynDns.org, to their credit, somehow manages to propogate changes in less than one day, sometimes within one hour.

So, that's all for the new year -- at least so far. Much more to come.
